Being Present
Being present means focusing on the situation at hand and being fully attentive. It is listening and responding to the person or persons in the interaction.
Have you ever seen a Santa with a child during the holidays? When that child is telling Santa what they want for Christmas, the only two beings on the planet are that Santa and that child. The best Santas are those that are fully present with the child. They listen. They are attentive. They respond appropriately.

Knowing the Cost of Success
Life and career are heavily intertwined. Goals and aspirations for one impact the other. We each need to think about the costs that one has on the other. Never just blindly grab an opportunity (that golden ring on the ladder perhaps) without weighing the cost.

Enough Already!!!

I always accept a vendor's pitch. I want to understand their product and its current capabilities. Where do they believe the market is going? What is on their current roadmap? Would they customize features for us if we need something not on their current roadmap or would they include it as a later future roadmap deliverable? What is their cost structure? The answers to those questions help me to validate what we are doing and the direction that we are taking
