Henry Bedingfield (1505 - 1583). How we invest those dash years depends on our priorities, whatever we may believe our calling in life has been, our ability to take a chance on someone or something even when circumstances deem otherwise, and how we choose to impact the lives of the people and world around us. 

It took a brother’s terminal illness to bring about the reconciliation of the relationship. There were way too many lost years of relationship and fellowship over a few dollars ---- which amounted to nothing in the long run.

From a poem by Linda Ellis entitled “The Dash” “I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning to the end. He noted that first came the date of the birth and spoke the following date with tears. But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between the years." How we invest those dash years depends on our priorities and how we choose to impact the lives of the people and world around us.

I did learn the value of conviction and truthfulness in the information shared up the management chain. As a leader, I need to be sure I have conviction and truthfulness in the information I share about my team and the work we are doing. As a subordinate, I need those qualities too. My boss stakes his reputation on my conviction and truthfulness.

Actions do speak louder than words.  People are always watching.  How we respond to a situation reflects our character --- including our integrity.  How we treat other people or how we are willing to do the right thing or speak up when needed reflects our integrity too.
