Leadership is a complex dance of skills, attitudes, and behaviors that inspire others to follow you—not because they have to, but because they want to. Over time, I’ve come to appreciate that certain essential leadership traits make all the difference, especially in high-stakes environments like global telecommunications, where secure and highly available IT systems are non-negotiable.

What I discovered though was this this phase of my career became the most fulfilling of my career. Politically, I could be as outspoken as I desired. but the most fulfilling part of this phase of my journey was the ability to play forward some of my experience and wisdom to more junior employees who were in the initial stages of their careers. There were all sorts of opportunities to play it forward.

Innovation is a journey, not a destination. If you’re ready to take your secure IT systems to the next level, start by fostering a culture that encourages curiosity and calculated risk-taking. Remember, it’s about building robust systems that can handle anything—while staying safe and always available.

Your five-to-seven-year career plan needs to align with your end of career goal. You may need to make adjustments to get to where you ultimately see yourself. A Chinese proverb states that the journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step. Every career step choice is either one that tracks toward my desired career destination or one where I will end up in a destination I never chose. You do not want to climb a career ladder and end up atop the wrong building

We forgive others because God forgave us. It is not because we deserved or earned forgiveness. When we do not forgive, we are playing God with others. To become the man God intended me to be, I need to be able to forgive others unconditionally, the way that God has forgiven me. Forgiveness is paramount for us to heal on the inside.
